The Cruise Center HafenCity went into operation in 2006 as Hamburg´s first down-town cruise terminal. Two terminal buildings and two berths were used to serve cruise ships arriving and departing until 2016. Following the dismantling of Terminal 2 in 2016, one terminal and one berth (for cruise ships of a length of up to 345 m and a draught of up to 11 m) were available for calls until June 2020.
At the site of the southern "Überseequartier" a new, modern terminal is currently being built, which will replace the current Cruise Center HafenCity from the end of 2023 onwards. The new cruise terminal will be integrated into a complex ensemble of buildings with underground bus station, car parking spaces and a taxi curbside as well as a hotel and retail spaces. The terminal will offer 2 berths with a capacity to serve up to 3.600 passengers simultaneously.
