Hamburg at the Seatrade Cruise Global 2017

10.03.2017

From 14 to 16 March 2017 Seatrade Cruise Global, the world’s largest cruise industry trade fair, takes place in Florida. Hamburg is the only German port that has its own booth at the show. Together with Cruise Net Hamburg (CNH), Hamburg Tourismus GmbH and other parties of Hamburg’s cruise community Cruise Gate Hamburg (CGH), the operator of Hamburg‘s three cruise terminals, will showcase their development strategies.

“Together with our partners we will make use of our presence at Seatrade Cruise Global 2017 to present Hamburg as a cruise destination and network with cruise lines, partners and suppliers,” says Sacha Rougier, Managing Director of CGH. Hamburg is continuously gaining in popularity as a cruise destination - the figures are proof of that. In 2017 roughly 200 ships carrying a total of about 800,000 passengers are expected to call compared with 170 calls and 722,000 passengers last year. On top, the inauguration of the Elbphilharmonie has put Hamburg on the global map.

The international attention Hamburg is receiving is one of the reasons CGH has been invited by the Seatrade organisers to speak about Hamburgs strategic development at the conference session entitled “Port Capacity – to Invest or Not?”. The conference takes place at the same time as the trade show. “The invitation is an excellent opportunity to present the new infrastructure at the Steinwerder Terminal and the planned HafenCity Terminal,” Sacha Rougier explains. Under a visionary urban development strategy a new cruise terminal integrated into a shopping, hotel and entertainment complex will be built in the Überseequartier district at HafenCity from 2017 to 2021. The highly modern integrated-terminal concept offers additional options to cruise lines as well as to further develop the cruise business in Hamburg. “I am looking forward to sharing our plans and ideas with international decision makers of the cruise industry in Fort Lauderdale and promote Hamburg as a destination at an international level,” Sacha Rougier declares.
