Cruise Gate Hamburg attended the 14th GreenPort Cruise & Congress, hosted by The Port of Valencia from October 16 to 19, 2018.
Sacha Rougier, Managing Director of Cruise Gate Hamburg, had been invited to talk about the relationship between cruise port and the city. In her presentation in the first session of the congress she covered the topic of coping with larger vessels and increasing tourism and related it to the development in Hamburg. Hamburg decided to become a pioneer for sustainable cruise development and therefore has, over the past years, put a lot of effort in making Hamburg as a cruise port attractive for not only cruise lines and passengers but as well as for the citizens of Hamburg. Cruise Gate Hamburg has consequently invested in modern infrastructure facilities and supplying alternative energy to cruise ships at all three terminals.
In the course of the next few days, the conference aims at providing decision makers from the port community - port authorities, terminal operators, shipping lines, logistics operators - with a meeting place to both learn about and discuss the latest in sustainable development and environmental practice to enable them to effectively implement the changes needed to reduce their carbon footprint and to be more sensitive to environmental considerations.
